Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations-Consultant 2011-2012

  • Prepared an agricultural trade profile and structure of The Bahamas, identifying key products
  • traded (imports and exports) and main partners, including the nature of tariff and non-tarif barriers (NTBs);
  • Identify the main trade concerns identified by stakeholders;
  • Identify what potential exists for up-scaling production/trade;
  • Reviewed EPA and key bilateral agreements with key trading partners to determine SPS and TBT obligations and issues for The Bahamas;
  • Assessed the specific nature of SPS and TBT regulations and standards used as tariff or non-tariff barriers (NTBs) by The Bahamas and those it faces from its main trading partners both within the CARICOM and elsewhere;
  • Evaluated which of the NTBs are WTO/CARICOM compliant and provide recommendations on how to make complaint those, which are not, with a view to enhancing food security in the Bahamas;
  • Analysed and discuss key issues for WTO accession in the agricultural sector for the Bahamas;
  • Discussed trade remedies in place currently or that should be proposed to address issues of dumping;

The Caribbean Agribusiness Association (CABA) Trainer 2010 - 2011

  • Enhanced local capacity to provide effective training to the targeted audience in the broad trade related areas –multilateral trade rules (WTO), regional trade agreements (RTA: e.g. CSME, FTAA, EPA, EU-ACP), and food quality regulations (FQR).
  •  Participated and lead four pilot training workshops in Jamaica, T&T, Bahamas and St.  Lucia
  •  Conducted SME Training Workshops – Each TR will be required to conduct one or more 2-day SME training workshops.

The Caribbean Agro-Economic Society (CAES) Country Local Representative 2010 –2014

  •  To represent The Bahamas in matters pertaining to the business of the Society
  •  To inform country institutions (public and private) involved in agriculture and related business of the work and activities of the Society
  • To facilitate stakeholders in accessing information on the regional agricultural sector, both private and public, via the Society’s Secretariat, in particular the proceedings of the Society’s Conferences
  •  To make such efforts as to increase the overall membership of the Society, drawing from interested persons and institutions in the various fields of agriculture and related business in the country.

  • To provide an avenue for seeking and obtaining information on respective country agricultural sector performance, experiences, and issues for the furtherance of the work of the Society, such as contributions to the Society’s journal and newsletters
